Registration Process
Why should you register?
You have to register to be able to bid. We need to capture your information to be able to let you know if you have won the items you were bidding for, arrange delivery to you and arrange payment. The information we capture is only relevant to this and includes name and contact details, email address, username and password chosen, company name and contact details, job titles if relevant and business type etc.
We may at times ask you for voluntary information such as your business type and the type of stock you are most interested in bidding for, this is so we can ensure that ITAuctions.co.uk provides the products and services our members are looking for.
How do I register?
First steps:
- Click on the red Register Now button at the top right hand corner of the homepage.
- Follow through the instructions on the registration form.
- Complete all of the required information. If you do not complete a mandatory field then you will be asked to complete it before you can register.
- You will be asked to choose a username and password. Please see the Setting up a username and password section below for information regarding this.
- Without the mandatory information such as the name, email address etc we cannot set up your account as we cannot send you your password. This prevents false registrations and ensures that email communications from ITAuctions.co.uk are being received.
Setting up a username and password:
- Your username and password is how the website will recognise you in the future. It can, within reason, be anything you like. As a bidder, you can select an identity that is either anonymous or a natural variant on your actual name. Please note that offensive usernames and passwords will not be allowed.
- You cannot have exactly the same username as someone else, therefore you may be asked to try again. Please note that variants with numbers are most likely to give you a unique username. (such as JSmith247 rather than simply JSmith)
- Near the end of the registration process you will be asked to enter a graphic code to show that you have read and accept the terms & conditions. If you do not wish to accept them then we are unable to register you but no harm will be done and we will not keep any of the information about you that you previously supplied.
- Once entered please click on the 'Registerl button. If all information is correct and mandatory fields completed then an automated email will be sent confirming we have received your application.
What happens next:
- We immediately acknowledge your registration application via email.
- The email confirms your chosen username and password.
- Within a working day (usually a couple of hours during office hours) we review your application and email you to confirm that your account is active and ready to use.
- Once you receive your activation email all the members facilities will be available to you.
- If there are any matters that require clarification (an unrecognised address for example) we will attempt to contact you via email or phone to avoid unnecessary delays.

Logging In & Logging Out
Why should I log in?
If you are not logged in you will not be able to view your account details or place any bids. The logging in process simply asks you for your username and password which you chose when you registered and which were confirmed in an email to you from ourselves. Once logged in you can watch any lots that are of interest to you, let us know what items you are looking for, see what you are currently bidding on, update your personal information and contact details etc.
Logging in:
- Click on the small red Login button near the top right hand corner of the homepage or click on the Sign In link in the My Account area at the top left hand side of the homepage. This will then present you with two boxes to enter your login details.
- Alternatively you can sign in from the 'Place a bid' section of any Lot on site.
- In the first box, please enter your username. (Case sensitive!)
- In the second box, please enter your password. (Case sensitive!)
- If you wish for your username and password to be remembered for your next visit please click in the 'Remember me' box. Please note that this will only happen from that individual PC and only if cookies are enabled on that PC.
- Click on the arrow in the bottom right of the login box and you will be logged in!
- You will now have access to your account details in a drop down menu list from the 'My Account' toolbar just below the search boxes.
- You can return to this point from any screen by clicking on the big red My Account button in the top right hand corner of any page/screen.
I’ve forgotten my password!:
This section will be updated once the new process is determined. Please contact the office during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm) in the meantime.
Why should I log out?
Your account details are personal to to you and you should keep them private for security reasons. Logging out prevents anyone else from looking at your account unless they have been told your username and password by you. This also prevents bidding in your name that could legally commit you to a purchase. (Please note that we are able to trace the IP (Internet Protocol) address back to the PC/Internet connection users login from and can also produce a login audit for legal reason where required.)
How do I log out?
Click on the red ‘Log out’ button near the top right of the homepage to log out. If your account remains logged in but inactive for a period of time we will automatically log you out for security reasons. You will then have to log back in if you wish to view your account or place bids.

Using The Search Function
What is the search for?
The search function enables you to find auctions currently on site that are of specific interest to you. It is a short cut alternative to browsing through categories and sub categories at random to find what you are looking for.
How do I use the search function?
- Click in the Search box on the homepage.
- Enter the text you would like to search for. (ie. skirt or phone etc)
- In the drop down list choose whether you want to search all categories or just individual ones. Once selected click on the 'Go' button.
- All relevant results will then be shown on the page with their basic details, you can click on any of these to see further details and place bids.
- All results will be shown automatically but you can further refine your search to ‘Auction’ items or ‘Buy It Now’ items by clicking on the associated tab across the top of the results page.
- Please remember to be as specific as possible in your searches. If you are looking for software then by typing in the search textbox 'soft' you could bring up both 'Software' and 'Soft Toys'. Therefore typing in the search text 'software' would bring up more relevant results for you.
- Search results can be sorted by the use of the 'sort by' drop down list once the results of your search are displayed.
- To narrow your search you can also click on the Advanced Search Option link within the search box itself. This works in the same way as the standard search box but allows you to further define your search to only results which have photographs attached, bids against them etc.

Browsing For Items
What is browsing?
Browsing is simply the act of searching through the web site looking for items of interest to you, in effect seeing everything that is available and then slowly narrowing down your search without using the Search functionality available.
How do I browse?
There are two main ways of browsing the site:
Firstly: On the left hand side of the homepage is a section called 'Browse By Categories' that lists all of the different categories of stock available.
- By clicking on the relevant category it will open up any associated sub-categories, displaying the number of items in that sub-category and you can again click on this sub-category to open up either further sub-categories or the list of items in that category.
- You can drill down each of the categories (normally only for one or two levels) until you reach a list of all of the products in the category / sub-category. You can then click on any of the items to view its full details and place a bid.
- To refine the results of the current category you can select whether you wish to view all items, just auction items or just ‘Buy It Now’ items by clicking on the relevant tab that is presented to you.
- You can use your ‘back’ button on your browser to retrace your steps and return to previous items or categories.
- You can also move backwards to previous categories by clicking on the required category in the string of categories at the top of the page, just below the search box, that shows the level you are currently at.
Secondly: You can click on the 'Buy' tab near the top of the homepage. This will open up a new page with all of the currently available categories shown in alphabetical order. (Each of these categories will display any sub-categories currently available for that main category.) By simply clicking on each category / sub-category it will take you to either a list of stock in that category or a further list of sub categories where you can drill down to find the items you are looking for.

My Account
What is my account?
Once you have registered and logged in you will be able to view and change some of your personal information. You will also be able to view details on the auctions you are participating in.
When you are logged in the My Account button is displayed in the top right hand corner of the homepage and options with drop down boxes are presented beneath the Search boxes towards the top of the page.
Each of these options has a pull down menu which allows you to take further actions. For example, the My Account link lets you change your addresses and change your password while the Buying link lets you view the items you are currently bidding on, watching or winning etc.

Bidding Process
Why should I bid?
Bidding onsite is the easiest way to buy the goods that you need at the price that you want to pay. You bid only as much as you feel is fair and by not bidding you don’t get the chance to snap up those bargains!
How Do I Bid?
Please remember that you can only bid on items when you are registered and logged in...
- To bid on an item you firstly need to login using your unique username and password.
- Browse or search for the items you wish to place a bid upon and view its details. You will see the information regarding the current state of this item across the top of the page. This will tell you what the current highest bid is, how long is left on the auction, what the next minimum bid is and whether any reserve price has been met.
- To place a bid you can either scroll down the page to the 'Place a bid' box or click on the 'Place a bid' link near the top of the page.
- This will take you to the 'Place a Bid' box. This box again confirms what the current highest bid is and what the next minimum bid has to be.
- By simply clicking on 'Place a bid' it will take you to a confirmation screen to confirm that you wish to proceed. However, you are able to choose options before you do this.
- If the lot is made up of a number of the same item then you will be bidding a price for each individual item. Therefore you will need to set the quantity you wish to bid for by clicking in the 'Quantity' box and entering the number you wish to bid for.
- The 'Max' bid box allows you to state what your maximum bid for this item would be. This allows the system to automatically increase your bid up to your pre-determined maximum level should other bidders outbid your original bid. This automatic bidding will only increase your bid at the minimum increments, will stop when there are no higher bids and will only go up to the maximum bid you set.
- The 'Email me if I am outbid' option allows you to click on the small button to its right to be automatically informed (to your registered email address) if another bidder places a bid higher than you own, allowing you to revisit the item and place another bid.
- The 'Email me if my bid is raised' option can be selected by clicking on the button to its right. This will inform you by email (to your registered email address) if you bid is automatically raised by the system due to another bidder bidding higher than your original bid. This is only valid when you have selected a maximum bid amount.
- Once you have selected these options and the amount you would like to bid please click on the red 'Place Bid' button in the bottom left hand corner of the box.
- You will then be taken to the confirmation screen which will confirm the details of your bid and ask whether you wish to proceed or cancel and return to the item details. To cancel click on the 'Cancel' button. To proceed click on the 'Place your bid' button. A confirmation that your bid has been placed will be displayed and give you the option to return to see the updated lot.
- You can view a list and the details of the items you have bid on in the 'Items currently Bidding' section of the 'My Account' section.
What If I don't want to bid on all the items in this lot?
You do not have to bid on all the items in a lot if they are described as a number of individual items, it is only when they are a single lot that you have to purchase them all. (Some lots will have say 10 individual items while others may be a single lot of the 10 items.)
If you want to buy say, only two of ten 'toys' offered in one lot, Yankee Auction rules will apply.
You will be bidding the amount per item that you wish to pay.
Say you bid £5 for each of the two 'toys' you would like but another bidder then places a bid of £5 per 'toy' and wants all ten of them.
Providing the reserve price is met you will get the two 'toys' for £5 each and the other bidder will have to accept the remaining eight for £5 each.
If another bidder came in at £6 for five of the 'toys' then they would win five, you would win two (being the first bidder at £5) and the other bidder (who originally wanted all ten) would get three at £5.
If your bid amount and quantity requested ties with another, whoever bid first will win the auction
What is Auction 'auto-extend'?
When there is competition for an item just before the close of an auction then it is only fair that we allow everyone the chance to bid. Often bidders may find it difficult to place a bid if many people are all trying to do so at the same time, therefore we will automatically extend the close time of the auction by 5 minutes whenever a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes of that auction. This gives everyone the chance to place the bid they want to.

Delivery Policy
Delivery to your premises
After an item has been won in the auction, and only after you have made payment that has cleared, we will arrange delivery of the goods to you. We will choose the most appropriate/cost effective way to transport the goods to you, this charge will have normally appeared on the invoice that you paid. The expected delivery charge is normally detailed on the Lot before you place a bid and is unlikely to change unless the item has been mis-described or if special arrangements are made directly with you
Dispatch normally takes place on the next working day after your payment has cleared but, as the goods are dispatched directly from the vendors warehouse, their operational issues can mean that this is sometimes unavoidably delayed. We will always strive to get the goods dispatched to you as soon as is possible and delivery is usually within 3 working days from dispatch.
If you have reason to believe that a Lot for which you are bidding requires special treatment then we would ask that you contact us as soon as is possible to discuss shipping before you place a bid.

Returns Policy
After payment has been made by you and has cleared and you have received the goods:
You have 24 hours in which to inspect the goods and to inform us if the goods are not as described on the website. (Please note that in being an auction the only reason that goods can be rejected / returned is if they are not as described.)
You must inform us of any issues with the goods within 24 hours by email to our logistics email address of admin@ITAuctions.co.uk. After this time you will lose your right to reject / return goods and any refund, credit or other recompense will not be possible.
